Two site recommendations for new/old topics

As I have visited the forum off and on over the past 15 months, I have noticed there is a preference for new topics to be created instead of bumping old ones.

As the maintainer of a Discourse site myself, I would like to strongly recommend two things for your instance.

  1. Enable “Auto close topic after” within each Category setting. Admins are able to set the time frame for a topic to close after the last reply. This helps prevent very old topics from getting bumped by newer users.

  2. Install and enable Discourse Solved. Using this shows other members when a solution for a specific help topic has been found. Additionally, it has an option to auto-close the topic a set number of days after the Solution has been selected. This would also prevent the above situation from occurring.

Hi.

Thanks for the suggestions!

@david thoughts?

Glad to hopefully offer positive input and feedback. You have a brilliant app that has been a huge help in my small business. Additionally, I do my best to help out on open source projects that I support.

It looks like Solutions may be installed now? I looked on many topics and had not seen it, but do now in your post here. So, thanks for implementing Solutions or at least enabling it in settings!
