I have an online payment surcharge configured in the settings. What I see happens is, when I make, save and email an invoice, nothing changes on my end. When the client opens the client portal to view/pay, the invoice data gets adjusted on my end to include a line item for a surcharge, but this doesn’t happen instantly - I usually have to refresh the page a couple of times.
The issue I’m having is, even though the invoice data gets adjusted to include the surcharge line item, the PDF view and download don’t show the line item. It gets hidden. The subtotal and total are increased and so reflect the effect of the surcharge, but the line item itself doesn’t appear on the PDF. It also doesn’t appear on the PDF the client can view/download from the portal.
Is this a bug? Is there a setting I need to change so the surcharge line isn’t hidden?
Okay so I changed a payment setting. I untoggled One-Page Checkout. Now it behaves differently.
Whereas when this setting was enabled, even though opening the client portal triggered a product table update on the invoice to include a surcharge line item, the PDF the customer sees in the portal and the PDF I see on my end do not show the surcharge line item, only an unexplained increase in the subtotal/total. And this PDF behavior stays consistent no matter how many times you visit the client portal or how many times I open it on my end.
With One-Page Checkout disabled, the products table still gets auto updated, but the PDF both me and my customer see show no effect of a surcharge at all - neither a surcharge line item nor and increased subtotal/total. I am actually fine with this, because showing no effect of a surcharge is less confusing than an unexplained increase in the subtotal/total, and it is likely the customer will think they’re paying Stripe directly rather than me charging a surcharge.
