Problem after update

I have been using Invoice Ninja v5 for the last few months without any major problem. After the latest update I cannot generate a new invoice. It saves the invoice as sent, however it does not send. When I want to preview a PDF either on the customer portal or in the software, it soon loads something and shows Error 500.
This affects both new invoices and invoices that have already been downloaded and paid by the customer.
How can I correct this?
