E-Invoice Certificate and Passphrase

Using v5.10.57 Self-Hosted.

Hi, probably a naive question but I am currently clueless: In the E-Invoice settings, there is the possibility to upload a certificate and a passphrase.
What kind of certificate are we talking about here? Is this a certificate that will make my Invoice Email containing XML files not be marked as spam or “having dangerous content”, or is this something else entirely?
Regardless of the type of the certificate, knowing that the company resides in Germany and has German clients, from where can I get the certificate (depending on its type)? Any hint would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I found this site which may be an option.

Thanks for the prompt response. So we’re talking about any digital certificate to sign documents such as Entrust and Digicert, correct?

I believe the cert is designed for e-invoices, for example you couldn’t use a standard SSL cert.

You would need to refer to your local authority requirements for this. signing would need to use a compatible/compliant certificate. not just any certificate.

Thank you @david for clarifying

Hi folks,
please allow me an addendum …

AFAIK a qualified digital signature for digital invoices (like simple pdf) is generally no longer required for business (and never was for private) customers. It was officially before but in the “wild” i havent seen any.

Maybe official bodies and authorities - if your customers - may need it or big business will ask for it. But i have not read anything about the need of a signature with e-invoice.
