Attach Documents to Invoice

Attaching documents is confusing to me. I take pictures of completed work and attach them to the task so the customer can see proof of the work. Looking at the client on Invoice Ninja shows there are no documents, fine, I can see them when going to the tasks tab on their portal. No one would know to check there since there is no indication of attached documents but then I archive the tasks and the pictures are gone from the portal.

What is the workflow here? Do I need to wait until invoicing to attach documents and how would the customer know to look for them? Thanks!

btw - the statement view has the cool thumbnails that used to be on the invoice.
